As shutdown continues, so do association warnings A range of business groups continue to stress that a prolonged government shutdown could have damaging effects on the economy, but so far that message doesn't appear to be getting through to lawmakers. A new survey by the National Association of Government Contractors found that 29 percent of contractors said they would delay planned hiring because of the shutdown, while 58 percent said closures would have a negative effect on their businesses, according to USA Today.
